EXPERIENCE

Spending my career working with children, adolescents and families I had worked many years in a community-based mental health agency and transitioned to private practice where I continue to work with this very special population. Specializing in perinatal mental health and 0-18 years I have 10+ years’ experience in this area.

METHODOLOGY

Working with clients in the perinatal period (pregnancy - 1 year postpartum) and children from infancy to adulthood, I believe in a client-focused attachment-based delivery of therapy. The client is in control; they are the experts in their own lives and that of their babies and children. Everyone deserves to have a person who is empathetic, non-judgmental, and understanding of where they are at in any moment of their lives. This therapeutic methodology allows people to work at their pace through a strength-based approach to reach their goals and feel connected to their child(ren) in a way that supports the emotional and developmental wellbeing of all family members. Parents learn ways to maintain their own mental health while connecting with their children using an attachment-based perspective which maintains a healthy child-parent relationship where both can thrive.

CREDENTIALS

Sabine is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered
Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and a member of The Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP). She earned her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University as well as a Couples Counselling Facilitator certificate with Prepare and Enrich Canada.

EXPERIENCE

I have always had a passion for counselling, but started off my career in business
marketing. My first experience in a counselling role, was when I created and led a
support group for new mothers for a local breastfeeding clinic. After becoming a
professionally trained new parent mentor and support volunteer with the Down
Syndrome Association of Toronto, it inspired me to transition my career into Mental
Health counselling.
My recent experience in the mental health field includes providing a wide range of
professional counselling services, however, my core strengths lie in working with
individuals who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, grief,
suicidal ideations, post-partum mood disorders, occupational burnout and relationship
challenges.

METHODOLOGY

In my role as a psychotherapist, I take a person-centered, non-judgmental and
empathetic approach with my clients. One of my favourite mottos that I like to apply in
therapy is “start where you are; use what you have; do what you can.” In a collaborative
manner, I work with my clients to establish a solid therapeutic relationship and empower
them to work through their struggles in order to effect positive change.

CREDENTIALS

I am a pre-licensed professional working toward registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and am supervised by Kristen Drozda. Currently, I am completing an Advanced Certificate in Couples and Family Therapy with the University of Guelph. I earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Child Study and Education from the University of Toronto, along with a Post-Graduate Certificate in International Development from the University of British Columbia. I am an Ontario Certified Teacher, an Associate Member with The Canadian Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and a Student Member with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

EXPERIENCE

Before practicing, I was privileged to work with at-risk children and youth, persons who live with disabilities and chronic illnesses, along with individuals with lived experiences of poverty, abuse, and domestic violence. Having lived in many parts of the world and worn various hats, such as researcher, teacher, and non-profit professional, I have witnessed how traumatic experiences can shape our lives as well as our incredible ability to heal through moments of hope, connection, and community.

METHODOLOGY

My practice is guided by theories of attachment and development through a trauma-informed lens. I use a client-centered and relational approach when working with children, teens, adults, and families. I believe that healing can occur in environments that are emotionally safe, respectful, and predictable, with individuals who are empathetic and nurturing.
